Weave found love in a hopeless place…

August 27, 2014

I’ve had so many people asking about my weave since I got it on Sunday so I thought I’d put up a post about my weaving experience. If you’ve been following my blog you would know that this year was the first time that I actually put a weave. I put it on my 20 before 20 list so that I’d make a point of actually trying it. The fact that I’ve it done a second time says something.

So for you to enjoy your weaving experience make sure you invest in a quality weave such that the only way someone will know that it’s not your hair is by its length. Investing in quality means that you can either get an affordable weave of good quality, use it once and get rid of it or you can get a slightly expensive one that you’ll be able to use more than once. Whatever tickles your fancy really.

Also make sure that whoever is doing your hair has had a lot of experience with weaves so that they’ll be able to do a good job.

1. Your hair will grow and grow and grow. It’s really unbeweaveable (Puns are the greatest, aren’t they?). Before, my hair was in a really bad place but after staying with my weave for a while so many people were commenting on my hair being healthy; something that has never happened before. I like to put one when I have growth and right after I have braided.

2. They look good and if put strategically, you can style it in many ways.

1. Shedding. After a while of pulling and combing, the strands kind of begin to shed off. Not in a really bad way but just the same way you lose strands of your hair sometimes. So expect to have lots of hair strands in your room.

2. Itching. This really depends on the condition of your scalp. As for me, my hair may look healthy but my scalp is far from it. So I used to go for a weave wash once I feel like my scalp was too dirty. But I know a lot of people who have perfectly healthy scalps and a weave wash will probably not be necessary.

Avoid putting solid moisturizers while oiling your scalp. It’ll make it murky and the dirt will accumulate. A tip that my hair stylist taught me is to spray some sheen spray in between the tracks and let it trickle down. This is waaay waay better.
